Help me give my students individual tables for their sewing machines, so they can have elbow room to sew their articles of clothing, along with irons/boards for a professional finish.
We are a title one school in Arizona. Seventy-four percent of our students receive free and reduced lunch.
My students are gifted, so they are quick to learn high level math and read at college levels, however they need basic life skills that do not come naturally.
They have interesting quirks that make them so unique that you just are happy to be with them. They are eager to learn core classwork but need to learn social/life skills just like every other middle schooler. My students teach me something every day and in return I would like to make them successful at whatever they choose to do with their lives.
My Project
I am excited to teach a new Sewing and Fashion Project Based Learning (PBL) class this year. I was given 10 sewing machines and for now, they are sitting on tables and close together. The ten tables that I am asking for will give the students room to sew and make it easier for me to assist them. The irons and ironing boards help to finish their clothing professionally.
Our first project is sewing pillowcase dresses for a charity "Little Dresses for Africa".
What a great way to learn the basics of sewing and giving to those less fortunate. From there we will work on patterns and sewing their own clothes.
Sewing is a basic life skill that all students should have. Sewing on buttons, fixing a hem, ironing, and making clothing lets students be creative and provides a well rounded education. Please support my students to help them develop their life skills. Thanks for your consideration and help.
