This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We designed and built our own garden last year. This year we want to turn it into an outdoor learning environment. We want to create stepping stones for our garden that we can use to guide the other classes through the garden.
My students are creative, energetic and hands-on.
They have no problem with rolling their sleeves up and getting dirty. They are very excited about adding a new element to their garden. Our school is a diverse learning environment with parents and students committed to learning.
My Project
We need the supplies necessary to make stepping stones for our garden. This project allows the students to customize the garden and creates a learning path in the garden. We are working to create a guided tour of our garden complete with stone path.
It is important to allow students to make the learning environment their own.
Creating projects that challenges students to think for themselves and take action creates independent thinkers. The students chose to create stepping stones by class vote.
