My Students

My students are an amazing group of kids from all over the world - literally! More than half of my students are from a low- income households. As an Technology teacher, I work with lots of students, some of whom speak limited English. Many come to me shy, a little scared and nervous, yet eager to learn.

Our school boast an academic program that is top notch in reading, writing, and math.

My students are excited to be enrolled in my STEM pre-engineering course. With a little bit of guidance and support, they have what it takes to become successful problem solvers and innovative thinkers.

My Project

My students need Samsung tablets to be able to test their code in real time. One way the tablets will be used will be to view the functionality of their app to make changes to their code. Another way they can be used is to differentiate instruction.

Students will be challenged to create functional apps to solve complex real world problems.

The Samsung tablets are needed for students to complete their paired programming activities. Programming is not so much a solo activity. They need advice and guidance from others around them. With the tablets student will be able to give each other instantaneous feedback to whether their app worked or not.

To allow students to see their work come to life on their tablet is beneficial to their self confidence and intrinsic motivation. With so many opportunities in life to become a programmer, allowing students to create real working apps will extend outside the classroom walls. Who knows? Maybe one day they will use their experience form this class to become a successful programmer.
