I teach a class of 28 amazing kindergartners who are eager to learn and deserve endless resources, experiences, and opportunities. They come from different backgrounds, have a wealth of experiences, and have a lot to contribute to our diverse learning community. They are eager for knowledge and engaging opportunities to learn.
I have a very diverse population at my school and in my classroom, with at least 50% learning English as their second language, and I teach at the most diverse school in the nation!
The children delight in activities that engage their minds and bodies, and they look forward to what each day of the exciting kindergarten world brings them! It is my job to inspire and motivate them in a variety of ways in which I reach the whole child.
My Project
I want to give my students a dream world of STEM materials to encourage them to play, build, problem solve, utilize mathematics and geometry, take their creativity and imagination to great heights, and begin building toward their futures in a STEM world. I purposely included some building materials with colors that girls are attracted to because I want them to be just as motivated as the boys in their science, technological, engineering, and math skills.
The girls and boys will be motivated to utilize Legos, Duplos, Brain Flakes, Magnetic Tiles, Zoobs, etc.
to create amazing structures, houses, cars, bridges, and whatever their mind helps them create!
We will call this STEM-land! My goal is start my amazing kindergarteners early so they develop a passion for STEM concepts/activities and thus a strong confidence and belief that these are things they can do and achieve in their future, especially for girls. Females are underrepresented in these fields. and I feel it is my job to encourage and foster not only a love for the fields of STEM but also a belief that both genders can achieve anything! The more they are surrounded with STEM materials, opportunities, options, exploration, and challenge, the more they will continue to achieve in STEM, thus opening up a world of options in the advancing 21st century! The children can't wait to get these materials to begin STEM-land in kinder!
