Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our School is becoming a gem in the area of Brickell, Miami. Fl Housing students from pre-K to 6th-grade. We have almost 900 students from all over the world. The language here is not a barrier, by the contrary, it is a friendly bridge that connects cultures and makes our school the most comfortable place to learn and make new friends from diverse backgrounds.
My third-grade class consists of 40 students from diverse backgrounds with children from more than ten nationalities.
For some of my students, it is the first time they have been in an English-speaking classroom. Some of them even did not receive an appropriate education in their native countries, so we have to work hard building the foundations and inspiring them to achieve their goals. Needless to say, the learning accommodations are as varied as my students are.
The 21st Century requires classrooms equipped to match the challenges facing my students and help prepare them for their future. They are very important to me, and my main goal is to make sure they are receiving what they need to achieve their goals.
My Project
During the last two years, my classroom has been a place where creativity has played an important role in the education of my students. My school is part of the STEAM project and as a teacher, I make sure to integrate Math and Science in the design of projects where we apply what we have learned in class while engaging in creative projects that stimulate the engineering process.
My class is a lab for futures scientists, engineers, inventors, and teachers.
We are preparing the students of today for the challenges that they will be facing tomorrow. Where many people see trash, I see materials for my students' creations.
I need your help in creating a STEAM Station in my classroom. Recycled materials such as plastic cups of all sizes, yarn, styrofoam pieces, cardboard, paper, corks, pieces of wood, wire, and more, are stored everywhere in carboard boxes labeled STEAM BOX, but with no accessibility at all. My STEAM materials and tools need a handy place, like the Copernicus STEM Station, which allows students to explore their own creativity and develop solutions to solve real problems in an organized manner.
