My Students

When students come in to a kindergarten classroom, they are eager to learn everything. When they cannot get the instruction and help they need, this excitement turns to disappointment. With a new table and chairs, my students who need extra help can succeed in an adjoining classroom with our aide.

The students in my classroom are from southern Missouri.

Our district has the lowest tax levy in the state and the free and reduced lunch rate is at 61%. We are very rural and there is an above average poverty rate in our district. There are 450 students in our district and 53 of the students are in kindergarten.

My Project

With 27 students in one kindergarten classroom and 26 students in the other classroom, a table and chairs would enable our classroom aide to work with small groups of students somewhere other than the floor. These resources could be used for many years to come not only in kindergarten but also by the PK, 1st, and 2nd grade teachers. Our goal is to turn some extra space into an area where small groups can go to have one-on-one attention.

Our tax levy is the lowest in the state and our free and reduced rate is higher than 60%.

State funding has decreased drastically in Missouri, and is anticipated to decline by 20% overall this year, but we are attempting to continue to go full steam ahead with our academic endeavors by seeking alternative funding sources.
