My students need a carpet space to sit on in the music classroom. This will allow more flexible lessons for many music activities and especially allow the younger students more comfort.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students of TI school are hard working, bright lights in the Chesapeake area who LOVE music. Teaching music to these students is a joy and seeing their faces when they’ve accomplished a new skill makes me very proud as an educator.
I am privileged to teach these students every day and watch them learn and grow through musical concepts.
Each year it is my hope and passion that I create a love of music in each student I teach.
My Project
My students, especially the younger ones, would greatly benefit from a new carpet seating arrangement. The activities that I could modify to best fit my students' comfort level while seated, such as drumming and Orff exercises, could be much more relate able, if the students were sitting on the floor versus in chairs.
Circle rhythm activities and movement activities will be especially more beneficial to students with a carpet in the classroom.
Sitting Indian-style in a circle will be beneficial for all grade levels when working together, face to face. The seating flexibility that a carpet adds to the music classroom is endless!
