My Students

My students are the most inspiring children you will ever meet. They come from some of the roughest backgrounds being at a Title I school and yet they come in each day with a smile on their face and ready to learn. They are so eager to learn new things and collaborate with their peers.

Some of my students are on their own when it comes to learning at home because their parents do not speak English well, or not at all.

If they do speak English, most of their parents work jobs that do not allow them to spend the time helping their child with school work. This makes their time in the classroom crucial, especially learning core subjects like reading and math. It stresses for me the importance of teaching them that they can dream and go far in life.

My Project

My students need a comfortable spot to sit that is all their own. This carpet will help them with spatial awareness as well as having a “home” on the carpet. We gather on the floor multiple times a day and the current “carpet” a.k.a. fabric covered concrete is not comfortable or conducive to learning. It is also incredibly hard for them to realize where to sit and how far away to sit from other people. This rug would solve all of those problems while making the classroom look like a place of learning. Solutions like masking tape look messy and after a while can damage our flooring.
