My students are more than just busy 5 & 6 year olds. They are the innovators of our future, who learn by listening, sharing, and communicating. They are fun, energetic, silly, sweet, kind individuals. They are eager to learn and love school.
In Kindergarten, we are learning to be independent problem solvers by working together and focusing on kindness.
We are a TEAM!! We love to learn through exposure of play and hands-on activities. As a title 1 school, we have a high number of children from-low income families and we help ensure that all children will meet the challenging state standards.
My Project
Every morning we start out the day with a "Morning Meeting". We start our meeting by sharing Good Things. During Good Things, my students are given a chance to share something good with their peers. Every morning they all get a chance to share with at least one other student! Our meeting continues with a chat about our schedule, our goals for the days, and reviewing rules!
Right now, my students do not fit on the rug we have.
It is very small. They are squished and do not have ownership of a spot, because there is not a spot for everyone! The small setting of a rug is perfect for my little learners. A rug would be a small, non-intimidating place for my students to share and in close enough proximity to me that they would be focused.
At their age, they are learning communication skills. Having a place to sit and share will help their communication and social skills! We are on the floor a large portion of our day. On a rug with clear spots, they would be able to quickly find their elbow partners. They can share their learning during any subject with that partner which helps them retain more information!
