My Students

I have been a kindergarten teacher for the past 27 years, and I love everyday! This past year I have decided to challenge myself by moving to a new school. My new school is located in a very diverse section of the city. In fact there are over 30 different languages spoken by students and families.

Most of my children live in homes that struggle to make ends meet.

Most of our students come from generational families that recognize that the only true chance they have to get out of our neighborhood is through the opportunities that education can bring. However, despite all the daily challenges that I face teaching in an inner-city school I am never discouraged. I love my job. I love my children. I try my best every day to make a positive difference in my students' lives.

My Project

As a kindergarten teacher one of the biggest skills I can teach my students is the ability to take turns and respect others' personal space. A classroom rug is a truly an invaluable tool in helping to teach this lifelong skill. Trying to teacher 30 five-year olds is a challenging daily task. Using a spacial tool like a classroom carpet can be a huge help.

Kindergarten is the foundation for education.

What a student learns in kindergarten will help them be successful for the rest of their lives. This is a responsibility that I take very seriously and I want to be able to do the best job possible. Any help that you can give, will make a huge difference in the lives of my children.
