We are a community of inquisitive and thoughtful learners. In art classes, we make our own art, we learn to share, to collaborate, and to speak tactfully about each other's creations. We also learn about the elements of art and art history.
Through art, we learn more about math, science, literacy, and our place in the world.
Our school serves 7th and 8th graders who range from 11-14 years old. We are a racially diverse, inner-city school where 76% of students are English language learners. Our population consists of 84% low-income students, 9% are homeless, and 27% are special education students. Eighty-five percent of our students function with 3-4 risk factors including poverty, homelessness, single-parent families, domestic violence, gangs, learning disabilities, and being a racial minority.
My Project
Students will use these watercolor supplies to create some awesome new watercolor paintings. They will design mandala shapes and add color and shading using the watercolor pencils. When water is brushed onto the pencil marks, it will blend and form gorgeous gradients.
I know my students will love this new watercolor mandala project.
Students will learn about color theory as they experiment with color in their paintings. Students will also practice creating mathematical and symmetrical designs. We will display these finished projects on campus and on our art class social media.
