Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a rural district, with many low-lying farmlands and pastures. Some are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey. They face challenges most teenagers face, and oftentimes more. There are many at our school who struggle with reading, and that adds to their struggle.
They are great children, full of potential, and I am grateful to be their teacher.
I have academic students, students who excel in a trade, and students who do both. Our school is well-varied in the options it provides our students. My goal is not to push my students towards college, but to push them to their limits. I can't wait to see how high they soar!
My Project
My students are used to receiving notes in black and white. They receive readings, with images and diagrams, that are in black and white. Their interactive notebook foldables and task cards? You guessed it- they're in black and white.
There are certain things that require color in order to pop and catch the students' attention.
Studies have shown that some students retain more information when it's presented in color. The diagrams and pictures would be easier to view, and details would be more discernible, if they were in color.
The printer and cartridges would allow me to print out certain activities in color, thus providing eye-catching components to their lessons. It will also allow me to print out exceptional student-made projects, certificates for excellence, and enhanced manipulatives and guided notes. I have a project coming up in Astronomy, and the color printer and lanyards will allow each student to have a customized badge for their "space exploration mission". The laminator will allow me to preserve some of the colored items, so that they can be reused.
