6th grade reading provides a wealth of backgrounds, interest, abilities, and love for reading. As hard as it is to believe, not every student LOVES reading. Students come in with a wide variety of personalities, and with this subject come many different ability levels. Fostering a love of reading is my ultimate goal because once there is a love of reading, anything is possible.
I will be trying to provide students with a variety of seating options, as well as novels to explore and develop their love and appreciation of stories and literature.
Those who already love reading will have an opportunity to continue their exploration of fiction and nonfiction text throughout the year. Those who struggle, both with ability and desire, will be provided a comfortable and safe environment to find their one good book that will grow their love of reading from a spark, to an all-out inferno, lighting the way for those that follow in the pursuit of knowledge and imagination.
My Project
Students are bombarded with flat, boring assignments and projects. Providing students with the opportunity to access color copies of both classroom assignments as well as colorful opportunities for their projects and presentations. With a color printer, I can provide color pictures and printouts for students to utilize in both projects and presentations.
As a teacher who thrives on color and excitement, I truly believe that even the slightest improvements to classwork and the classroom by adding color will bring new life and engagement to not only classwork but the excitement for learning.
Livening up reading materials has been shown to bring stronger engagement to a passage.
