I am writing this proposal so I can take my third grade class to Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas Spectacular this coming holiday season. My class last year was able to go, through a grant from a kind donor and I'm hoping to do the same for my new class this year. Last year the children were so amazed just to step into the grand lobby. They kept looking around and up at the decorations and the architecture of the lobby. I'll never forget one student who stood with her mouth open and said, "Oh! This is beautiful, thank you for bringing us here!" Most of the children in my class had never been to a broadway show or special musical event. Even in June when I asked the children to write about their best experience in the third grade most where still talking about the Radio City Music Hall trip. This is an experience they will remember the rest of their lives. Each year our class will begin a trip journal which is an opportunity to write about their experiences. This trip will give each child another experience they can write about. We as teachers are always having our students write about experiences but a lot of my students never experience anything but school, home, and their local neighborhood. These type of trips also let the children know that there are all types of careers for them as they grow into adulthood. I might have the next Broadway star sitting in my classroom, he or she just needs to know these careers are available. Thank you in advance for any help that can be given to make our trip a reality.
