I am a first-year teacher and so far I am absolutely loving my profession as well as all my students. Throughout college, I never saw myself working at a Title I school. Now that I am here, and working; I am happy to say I found my forever home! My students come from several different extenuated circumstances and tend to be a grade behind. My goal is to fill in the gaps and help my students reach their full potential. In my classroom, excellence is expected, and I believe they will all succeed.
Being in Kindergarten, lots of my students haven’t been given the opportunity to attend preschool.
So upon arrival, many of them could not recognize their alphabets along with recognizing numbers 1-20. This year I have 25-28 students in my class. Throughout the school year, the number of students fluctuates. My students are between the ages of 5-7 years old. Some things that they enjoy outside of school are playing with their friends, watching a YouTuber Ryan’s World, and doing Fortnite moves to any song that plays. Since starting the school year, every single student has worked very hard to excel in school.
My first ever DonorsChoose project was called "Book Buddies to the Rescue." And that project was a take-home activity that would help strengthen my students' reading fluency. The project consisted of a variety of leveled reader books that students could choose from and a take-home bag filled with helpful reading materials.
As of right now, our Book Buddy materials do not have space in our classroom where students can easily access the materials needed on their own.
The idea of the shelf is to have an organized space that students can approach without any help from the teacher, find their reading level, and go through the different books and choose the one that they want to take home for the night!
The next day, the student brings their book back to the classroom and simply puts their book back in the correct leveled bin and chooses another book! The wheels mobile cart also has wheels to help if I would need to move the cart around the room for more space...which would be awesome!
