Help me give my students coffee tables, video rockers, recliner stadium seat, and dot colored stickers to have an engaging learning environment.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students come from a low-income area, with more than half qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.
This environment can produce certain obstacles to education, such as an inability to meet a child's basic needs, working parents who may lack the time or resources to provide academic support, and a whole slew of other difficulties.
While these challenges exist, they do not deter our students from striving towards goals and succeeding in endeavors.
Through our commitment to developing relationships, building supports, and creating a positive learning environment, I continue to see the gap lessen. My school does everything it can to support the needs of our children both academically and socially. Our children continue to show scholarship, purpose, and grit and need a classroom that will continue to foster their growth.
Every day, my diverse group of learners work to gain independence and responsibility in the classroom. Most of my students are with me for the majority of the day, and spending all day in desks is not the most comfortable or effective way to engage my students. It is my goal to help prepare my students for independent life before graduating and they have used desks all through school; it is time to transition to something different.
A choice in where to sit during class may seem like a small decision, but providing students with choices in the classroom will help engage them in learning and promote independence.
My students will have the option to sit at a regular desk or coffee tables, video rockers, and recliner stadium seats. The color dots will provide students choices on where they want to sit. The movement from the desks and chairs will provide sensory stimulation and aid inattentiveness. The choice in seating will help them become more self-aware and independent learners who are able to make decisions to promote their own well-being.
