My students need a variety of seating choices to help them focus while reading and completing work. The Big Joe chair options and Gaiam Balance Ball Chairs are great choices to meet their needs!
I work in an elementary building that serves grades 3-5. We have 6-7 sections of each grade. I am one of four special education teachers that serves students with special needs. My case load varies year to year, this year being 20 students.
I work with special education students in grades 3-5.
My students have a variety of disabilities including Specific Learning Disability, Other Health Disability, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. All students have an Individual Education Program outlining their specific goals. Each student is unique in how they learn and grow. I love them all and want to give them what they need on a daily basis.
My Project
I teach special education students in a resource room setting. I typically have 4-5 students at a time. After instruction, my students love it when I say, "You can work around the room." I currently have one cushion, a flat bean bag chair, and a couple beach chairs for students to use. I have a great reading corner, but it's lacking inviting seating for my students.
I love moving around my classroom to work individually with students and seeing them comfortable, focused and learning!
Sitting in chairs at desks or tables all day is difficult for my students. Some need the movement the balance balls will provide. Other students need comfort and sensory input the chairs and bean bags provide. By funding this project, you will give my students options for seating in my classroom.
