I am a first-grade teacher to twenty-one growing learners. The students in my class come from very diverse backgrounds, including many students who are learning English for the first time. This is a Title I school.
Curious, hardworking, enthusiastic; my students love to learn and are excited to be in first grade.
First grade is a very exciting year where children develop the foundational skills and concepts they need for a life of learning! They will learn to read, write, understand numbers, do experiments, and become caring community members.
My Project
A classroom rug is a special meeting space that is incredibly important in a first grade classroom! Each day, we use it for community meetings, whole class lessons, partner work, and as a spot for children to read during independent reading time. Right now, our current rug is many years old. I inherited the rug when I moved into my current classroom and it has been used by numerous first grade classes.
With this new rug, all of the children in my class will have a special spot to call their own--They will feel confident, calm, and focused when learning during lessons and class meetings.
