My students need a Calming Colors carpet with 30 squares so they have a special place of their own, and pillows so they can lay down and feel comfortable while they read.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 5 year old kindergarten students are sweet, eager to learn and love school. Most of them are second language learners that qualify for free or reduced breakfast and lunch. They are humble and grateful children, and it is a joy to give them the foundational skills that they need to be successful in future years.
Since we are a Title 1 school, our PTA is only able to focus upon the basic needs such as fund raisers for field trips and science camp rather than classroom needs.
Our Title 1 funds have diminished over the years, and we no longer have the resources we once had for the classrooms.
Currently, our school is undergoing a remodeling transformation to accommodate software needs and make it look more attractive to families to enroll. We are embracing Blended Learning and flexible seating where students learn in part through instruction via online programs, and traditional face-to-face instruction.
My Project
The new color theme for our school is softer and more calming for students and teachers. I would love to have a new Lakeshore carpet in calming colors with 30 squares for my classroom. Next school year will be the first time in 20 years that the class size will increase to 28 students.
While flexible seating is encouraged, it's also important for my 5 year olds to have a special place of their own on the rug.
A good portion of the day is spent on the rug during shared reading, writing, calendar time and read alouds. This will improve both their behavior and learning. The calming colors pillows will make it comfortable for them to lay on the carpet and read.
