A Space to Throw Around Ideas: Interactive Mic & Carpet
Help me give my students a new meeting space that is conducive to engagement, conversation, and learning.
This project expired on December 9, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My second graders are intelligent, funny, and hard working. My students' needs are as diverse as their personalities and interests. However, one thing that they all have in common is that they are an active group with bounds of energy and a commitment to learning.
My students collaborate in a variety of groupings and settings throughout the day.
Due to the nature of our dual immersion language program, they need to be open minded and flexible in their academics.
Our school is one of socioeconomic struggle. 98% of my school's students are socioeconomically disadvantaged with 8% of our enrollment being homeless. Despite their backgrounds and their struggles, my students are more than the statistics that are many times used to describe them as a whole. My students possess the individuality, creativity, work ethic and passion for learning that truly define them and our learning community.
The carpet area is truly the heart of my second grade classroom. This is the space where we come together to discuss our ideas and feelings about books, share thinking, strategies, and discoveries during math lessons and engage in accountable talk in all academic areas.
My students deserve a space that is comfortable and conducive to conversation and engagement for all.
Our current carpet is going on 10 years of age and has definitely seen better days. It also does not accomodate all the students in my class. The new carpet is a semicircle that is colorful, inviting, perfect for our layout and would provide enough space for all my students. The addition of an innovative throwable wireless microphone would allow all students to be heard, promote engagement, as well as add an exciting level of fun to our conversations.
