As students in a school marked as high poverty, my students face many challenges to learning both in the classroom and at home. Despite these challenges, my students love to learn. They are eager learners and seek to meet the challenges I place before them daily. While they work hard every day to meet the rigorous goals of learning to read, they also challenge me. I strive to make my room a special place where students love to come and learn.
I teach guided reading to students who are struggling learning to read. We need a horseshoe table with enough room for students to manipulate letters and words. Students need to be able to have me within arms reach to demonstrate strategies within the text to help them become strong, confident readers. Our current setup does not allow for these interactions. I have to choose between room for working and being close enough to give students the assistance that they need. The chosen table will give us the best of both! Students will have room to work, but will have me close enough to help.
