This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you like sitting on a cold floor? My students do not either, this is why I need a warm and inviting rug!
I teach in a urban school in Southeast, Virginia.
Over 80% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of our students live in very violent surroundings, coming from single parent homes. School is often the only stable aspect of their lives. With this being said, they deserve a welcoming and comforting atmosphere.
My Project
The rug will be the center of our classroom; it will brighten up our classroom and provide a comfortable and warm space for the children to sit. The individual squares will provide students with personal space, allowing them to maintain focus during instruction. The rug will be used for both whole group instruction and team building activities, as well as an area for extension and remediation activities.
The carpet is where most of the daily kindergarten instruction takes place, therefore it is essential in a classroom.
The students deserve a warm and inviting area where they can devote their full attention during instruction.
