A Soundtrack for Graduation!

Help me give my students the equipment they need to create a soundtrack for our graduation ceremony. This is an authentic learning opportunity that will engage disengaged students in my classroom.

My Students

EHHS boasts the most diverse student community in Connecticut. We celebrate our differences and come together for award-winning academics, athletics, and a vibrant social life. Our young people come from every conceivable background and every part of the world. The downside of this is that they can be disengaged since there are few projects that engage all students.

It is heartbreaking that so many are so disengaged.

Our graduation ceremony is a special moment for all and especially for those who are the first in their families to earn a high school diploma. Students in my computer graphics class can be disengaged, but will find common cause and be engaged in an authentic learning experience by creating a video to accompany graduation using recording equipment provided by this project.

It is a tradition to show images of graduates as they cross the stage. In the past, an administrator has read names. This year, we would like to have teachers and staff record names and create a soundtrack.

My Project

My students have difficulty seeing the relevance in learning multimedia software. Few have access or imagine having access to this kind of technology in their personal lives. This results in students being disengaged. I believe students will learn to use recording equipment and multimedia software to engage in a project that has direct relevance to their own achievement. Engaging disengaged students in developing a vision for their own graduation should bring authenticity to student learning and engage students who are disengaged from more traditional projects.

I have asked for a Behringer PODCASTUDIO USB - analog mixer, Blue Microphones - Yeti USB Multi-Pattern Electret Condenser Microphone, Sony UX Series Digital Voice Recorder, Microsoft, Bluetooth Mobile Mouse 3600 and, Sony Headphones to engage students in creating recordings of names for graduation.

There is no greater learning opportunity than an authentic learning opportunity.

Our small mobile recording studio will engage students in authentic learning while providing a graduation ceremony that will bring the community together. There is no greater learning opportunity than an authentic learning experience. This is an opportunity for students to support and participate in a vision for graduation.
