This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my beginner ESL students come from Latin America. Enthusiastic, cautious, curious, desperately trying to make sense of the academic environment they found themselves in.

They might barely speak any English, but just like any other kids their age, they get excited when they finally grasp a particularly difficult concept, master a new skill, or figure out what a certain English word or a phrase means.

My Project

Have you tried to get comfortable at a desk firmly attached to a rigid, cold chair for 45 minutes straight? My students have to do it for 8 hours, minus PE and lunch. No recess or variety in furniture or sitting arrangements. By the 5th period, some of my students prefer to stand by their desks when doing their work.

Studies have shown that flexible seating in the classroom improved academic performance by 16 percent.

So the 12 wobbly cushions that this project will provide are not only comfortable but will also make my students academically successful.
