My students are Pre-AP and on-level English II students in a large high school in the suburbs. As tenth graders, they are often focused on extracurricular activities, like sports and debate, jobs, and the pressure of balancing it all. They want so badly to succeed in high school - but the world they live in and the world of school don't always look similar.
I have found that the majority of my students are not just students - they are athletes, volunteers in their community, performers/artists, school leaders, and part-time employees.
They are not just students, not just kids in school; they are young adults with many responsibilities doing everything they can academically to improve their futures.
My Project
This project moves my classroom further into a flexible environment fit for all learners. We already have one flexible seating option that works two ways: wobble stools at a standing height table. That option has been so popular that I knew I needed more options for my students.
Traditional desks just don't work for everybody, or every body.
My students come in many shapes and sizes, like all humans! They need seating and workspace options made for them.
The options we have now are great for kinsthetic learners; they can get their wiggles out. This new option will help students with sensory and medical issues have a more comfortable place to sit.
