My Students
Teaching in a Title I school in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges before they even walk into the school building. 100% of the students receive free/reduced lunch. Many of the students also receive a backpack of food over the weekend, as well as our monthly food pantry for the families. 85% of the students in my classroom come from a bilingual household.
Despite so many hardships, my students enter the school building every morning with bright eyes and even brighter smiles.
They are so eager to learn and always do their best. While I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly ensure that their school day is full of creative and meaningful learning experiences that will lead them down a path of academic success!
My Project
Hungry students have a hard time learning! I have been trying to provide them with a daily snack such as granola bars, pretzels, and fruit snack, but it is impossible as it is beginning to become expensive!
According to Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, "Physiological needs are the physical requirements for human survival, if these requirements are not met, the human body cannot function properly and will ultimately fail".
I want to ensure that my students are able to be their very best, and by ensuring that their bellies are full, I have a better chance of filling their brains as well!
