My students need the chance to practice using Mimio Teach interactive whiteboard activities in small groups and individually in a setting that they feel comfortable with.
Isn't it amazing to think about how many different languages exist in the world? Look at the many different types of print listed above - and this is just a small sampling of the languages spoken by my students in their homes! So many of my students are able to come into our school and quickly pick up on the spoken form of American English and start to make new friendships and be successful in many aspects of their school day.
But as you can see, the written code for language is much more complex! Many of my students have never received formal education, or may have had interrupted education in their home countries or in refugee camps and have not had the opportunity to see how their own language is encoded for writing. These children are so eager to learn and so full of excitement to come to school each day in a safe environment, welcomed by teachers who are ready to match their enthusiasm as they explore new ideas and create new experiences to propel them forward!
My Project
The Mimio Teach Interactive System is the best choice I can make to help engage my students with the 21st century learning goals of my district. It will enable them to use smart technology in interactive ways with their peers, as well as individually. In my small group setting, they can practice using the technology while simultaneously building language skills - something they often don't feel comfortable doing in their larger classrooms.
Working with technology is an integral part of being a 21st century learner and all students need the chance to gain proficiency with all the technology available.
I know that engagement is the key to bringing the learner into the learning, so let's bring it on!
