I work at an elementary school in an industrial suburb of Houston. Our population consists of grades kindergarten through fourth grade from many culturally diverse populations. The students' families are predominantly blue collar and have a passion for their children's education but have limited resources. Our community was also recently affected by Hurricane Harvey, displacing many of our students and staff members.
The efforts and energy of all faculty and staff are focused towards fulfilling our mission "to provide a positive educational experience for all children."
We are committed to guiding children in a positive and supportive manner so that our students achieve academic success and develop responsible social skills.
My Project
My students need a Skoog in order to make music more accessible to my autism students. Our school's music teacher comes to my room for music with my autism students weekly, and my students go with their general education peers to music every other day.
Having a Skoog will help my students learn an instrument that does not require the fine motor skills like a recorder.
For many people with disabilities, one of the greatest barriers to making music is the dexterity required to play a more traditional musical instrument. Skoog removes that barrier.
With your assistance, we can make a Skoog possible for my autistic students.
