Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a special education school, serving emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, and other special education classified students.

Our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds in New York City.

Over 95% of the student body is eligible for free lunch, and more than 90% receive public assistance.

I am currently an Art teacher in the Greenburgh North Castle UFSD, where a number of factors contribute to a challenging but constructive environment for students, and for myself. The classes are made up of students with a range of learning levels, as well as a variety of emotional disturbances and behavioral issues, ranging from Asperger Syndrome to ADHD. Along with refining my ability to teach to multiple levels of learning in a single class, my time spent here has provoked a new level of self-sufficiency for me in terms of classroom materials. Funding is short, and anything above the barest essentials must be procured by me.

My Project

Every art room deserves a functioning sink so that the students can learn to care for their supplies.

This new slop sink "19-Gallon Laundry Utility Tub " would really get our students excited to clean up after a project!

Right now we have a sink that only has cold water, has a crack that patched with ducktape, and gets clogged if you run the water for too long. If our students are excited to clean up our materials will be better cared for and last even longer. Its a win-win all around!

All of our students deserve an art room that is functioning and ready for them to create!
