My Students
My students come from a rural environment with less accessible opportunities than others. They come from backgrounds of high poverty, high homelessness, and broken homes.
For a lot of them, school is a place of sanctuary.
More than anything, my students just want to know someone cares about them. I work hard to provide the reassurances they need to be successful in school. Even with their disadvantages, they still deserve every opportunity we can give them to become thriving citizens in today's world.
My Project
My students are focusing on the iconic British authors of the Victorian and Romantic periods. From Mary Shelley's Frankenstein to Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, my students will delve into the wide range of literature produced during this period. They won't just read plays, novels, and poems, but look at primary source documents to get a deeper understanding of the period.
A study of this period would be incomplete without a novel by Jane Austen, and your generous donation will help buy a class set of Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice.
It is not just the literary merit of this great novel that compels me to teach it, but my love for this book that I hope to cultivate in my students.
