My classroom consists of 29 fifth grade students eager to learn. My students live in a high poverty area and are a highly transient population. The kids are eager to learn anything new, and love exploring the world around them.
Someone once said, "What we learn with pleasure, we never forget." My students are often the most eager to learn and the most appreciative when learning is fun and engaging.
My goal is provide my students many enriching and pleasurable learning experiences that they will remember for a lifetime.
My Project
The goal of this project is make my classroom a Sensory Smart classroom. What does this mean?
A Sensory Smart classroom understands student sensory issues and has the tools to address those needs.
Noise canceling earmuffs help students that may get agitated with loud noises, and weighted lap pads provide just the right amount of pressure to keep a child feeling safe and calm. Fluorescent light filters change the harsh, bright lights to a calm and relaxing environment, while tactile toys provide something students can fidget with during those moments when sitting still and listening is necessary.
The academic parts of the day are often the most challenging for students with sensory issues. These tools will help my students stay happy and focused on their learning.
