Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Title I urban school enrolls 7th-12th graders. Our students are smart and savvy. Despite the sounds of traffic and sirens outside, I would like to create a sanctuary, a safe place, where the students can read, play and expand their sense of self.
This maker space station can be self-sustainable.
Self-motivation
The students have expressed interest in working with beads to create bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. This would boost self-esteem and provide a creative outlet. Students are emotionally lifted when they can display their creativity in a productive way.
Self-Sustainable
The students have plans to sell the jewelry they make at school to other students in a fund-raiser event. The money raised during this event would replenish their bead supplies and the maker-space station would become self-sustainable.
