My Students
Our class is a wonderful mix! People joke that my class in a, "mini United Nations" because I have students from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, & Haiti, working closely with American born students. My students are all determined to be successful because at such a young age they understand the challenges ahead of them and they are preparing to take those challenges head on. Although we are located in a rough neighborhood my students are very sweet and serious about their learning.
My Project
A document camera would be such an asset to my students! Every week we have a student be the Star of the Week. Every day we participate in activities that would be much more beneficial if the students are able to see what I am doing as a mirrored image. With a document camera, we would no longer need to pass things around to each student but instead could display them on the board for ALL to see. Another benefit of the document camera would be that I would no longer need to write directions or examples on the whiteboard. I can write them directly on a paper, which would lead to a lot less confusion. I look forward to having a document camera during my literacy block for shared reading. By displaying the book, I can show the entire class specific text features, grammar examples, punctuation, and my students will be able to track the words as I read them. This will be extremely beneficial as I teach my students how to decode words and read with expression and fluency.
I don't want them to miss out on ANYTHING that we are learning.
