My students at our schools are strong members of the Latina community in East End Houston, Texas. They represent a large majority of the diverse, culture-rich immigrant and refugee community within the city of Houston. My students stem from majority low-income households, where English serves as a second language. My energetic 4th graders enter the classroom eager to connect through literature and writing; ready to learn to discover and explore.
They love to read about things that relate to them and eager to take their learning into their community to make a change.
All of my kids deserve to increase their literacy in order to increase their access. Help me to provide a safe, comfortable space for my students in order to motivate them to create their literacy. With more than 75% of my students serving as ELL students, literacy is a high priority within my 4th-grade class. Students will utilize this flexible seating as a privilege in order to incentive high performance in reading and writing. This space will also be used to provide a safe space for SpEd students within the classroom who have trouble sitting still or focusing during independent reading time.
