This year's Kindergarten students at St. Paul City School are a unique group of students coming from a variety of cultural and family backgrounds. With a variety of multiple, unique needs, we are striving to create an environment that is conducive to learning for each student. As our Kindergartners learn how to navigate the simple things in life, such as handling a book, or following rules that keep them safe, they are also learning what they need as individuals to thrive in school.
This year's class is an exceptional one for many reasons, but namely for their cooperation and willingness to be present each day, and to explore the world our classroom provides for them.
St. Paul City Elementary School is located in one of the most diverse neighborhoods of Saint Paul, and enrolls 98% students of color, 54% English Language Learners, and 94% of our students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. Some of these children come to school with Adverse Childhood Experiences, but you wouldn't know it by meeting their smiling faces each morning. We strive for the best for our students because they deserve the world and more.
My Project
This project is a simple one, but the impact is invaluable. Our classroom provides a productive space for students to come and stay focused, enjoy learning, and feel comfortable doing it their own way. We are asking for chair bands and stools for our classroom, so that we can meet the needs of students who benefit from these resources.
By providing students with flexible seating, we acknowledge the individual needs of our students, and set them up for success in the most basic of ways.
Any help towards our project is greatly appreciated, and will no doubt serve our students' needs one seat at a time.
