Our GA public charter school serves 420 Kindergarten through 8th-grade students from eight surrounding counties. We are proudly a "School of Choice" meaning that our student's parents chose our school for their children to attend and they are very committed to their children's education. Our learning environment is project-based and built upon the following virtues - fortitude, justice, temperance, and prudence. We teach children through their various learning styles. We are proud to be in the beginning stages of a school-wide gardening program!
Our scholars are eager to start their next school gardening project by sowing seedlings, in a greenhouse, and planting them in our raised beds for the next growing season!
Our students are incredibly innovative and are thriving as they learn through collaboration, responsibility, and building relationships. In less than a year, our 4th graders have planted a pollinator garden, our 2nd graders began growing vegetables in raised garden beds, and a combined effort between our third graders and middle school students have designed and built outdoor learning space where our project-based learning model can excel.
My Project
This greenhouse will add to our outdoor learning spaces by allowing our students to continue the planning, designing, and execution of our sustainable school garden program.
Our students are eager to start growing seedlings for our Spring garden in a quality greenhouse, located near our current gardening area.
The seedlings will need 6-8 weeks of growth in our greenhouse, before being transplanted into our raised garden beds.
In the Fall of this year, our 4th-grade students successfully raised money by collecting and selling plants at our school Farmer's Market. That money will be used for buying the supplies needed for our indoor seed sowing; now they just need a warm and sunny greenhouse to start growing!
