My Students

I have been teaching concert band for eight years and jazz band for four years. I went to High School in Marion, Illinois and moved out to Arizona to study music education and clarinet at Arizona State University. I have 150 seventh and eighth grade students and teach both concert and jazz bands. My students have performed at district, regional and state competitions, at ASU, UCLA, UC Riverside before Diamondback games, and at Disneyland. My classroom is very active and lively. We sing, we dance, we breathe, we jump, we dance, we improvise, we make noise, we laugh and we play.

My Project

Every year, I am starting to see more and more students that need to use an instrument provided by the school. Our school does not have a large supply of primary instruments like flute, clarinet, or alto saxophone. I am trying to build a supply of these instruments so that any student that wants to be in band and play these instruments has that opportunity. My first year, no students needed to use these instruments. This year, I have about six students that are using school instruments. The past couple of years I have even had to asked to borrow instruments from other schools in our district.
