My students are a group of physically challenged children who are in a substantially separate setting do to their needs. They are energetic and dynamic but sometimes it is hard to include them in mainstreams settings. My students are often lower academically than many of their mainstream peers.
More than 75% of the class comes from families that are considered high poverty.
The students come from a wide variety of nationalities and cultures. The students and staff have created an environment that celebrates diversity. The school has a wonderful inclusive environment for all its students.
My Project
Rifton chairs are specifically made for people with disabilities. The chairs are designed to help students be able to sit appropriately even with their physical challenges. The students are unable to sit in a standard classroom chair.
Rifton chairs provide the extra support for a children with physical disabilities.
The classroom has one of these chairs but we have a number of students who would benefit from the added support the chair provides.
Some of the students are on the autism spectrum. This particular type of student often needs the safety provided by a Rifton chair. The students often shake while sitting. A regular classroom chair might tip over, a Rifton chair will not.
