Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Making my high school classroom safe is critical for the success of our students! We have an extremely diverse population with over 73% minority students and 93% considered to be low-income through the free and reduced-price lunch program and 12% homeless. We have over 85% English Language Learners who need to build communication skills for future success.

Our school is all about providing a safe and equitable classroom for all students.

I work at an alternative school and teach 100 students who are struggling to find hope and motivation to stay in school. Many are gang members, teen mothers, homeless, dealing with mental health issues or any other personal issues.

I am able to connect to my students on a different level than most teachers of the large high schools. I will be working with the lowest-performing students and I am passionate about equalizing opportunities for them a safe and cheerful environment to be successful and graduate.

My Project

Students need a safe and happy learning environment. The table will be a fresh new collaborative learning space in my room. The air filter will keep my air safe in our old school building.

The new collaborative working space and handwashing station will give students a safe and engaging classroom.

We want the students to be able to wash their hands in a place in my room. Soap and masks are necessary to make this all happen. I know these additions to my room will be appreciated and used every day!
