I work in a low-income/high poverty area and the students in my class our faced with many challenges outside of school. Many of the students and their families live around violence on a daily basis. While they are in school my assistant teacher and I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment for them to learn in.
In our classroom, we provide the children with the opportunity to activate their senses through educational and social experiences designed to provide them with the learning skills they will need for a strong transition into Kindergarten.
Our families are unable to provide help with the items and materials we need in the classroom to create a fun learning environment for our children. Our children are our future and we thank you for your support in helping them along their educational journey.
My Project
My students love to spend time in our library area relaxing with a good book and reading to each other. Our classroom currently has very old furniture. Unfortunately, some of our furniture is so old that it is breaking. Our couch and chair have begun to fall apart with loose screws or wooden pieces. Our maintenance has attempted a few times to fix them for us but they have now become unsafe for the children to use.
We would like to provide a relaxing area for our children to enjoy a good book and/or have some quiet time away from the group.
They really enjoy sitting on the cozy couch and chair in this area and if our project is funded we will use the Just Like Home Comfy Couch and Chair to provide a safe and comfortable space for our children.
