This public school is located in the largest urban city in Illinois. It is in an extremely high poverty area; 98% of students come from low-income families.
I am a first year teacher starting this music program from scratch; I have a HUGE undertaking! I have a room (major bonus!), but no instruments, books, or CD's to fill up my fantastic room. A music classroom without instruments is like a reading classroom without books. My students can't wait to use "real" instruments and continue their learning of rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony etc. The school is very eager to begin a successful music program, but the lacks the necessary resources to purchase instruments and CD's.
The instruments/CD's/books that I am currently seeking will serve as the foundation to my program. The rhythm instruments are the base of my program, and will be greatly beneficial to students who long to touch 'real' instruments. In addition, the CD's will provide accompaniment for the rhythm instruments, and the books with CD's will help students with their understanding of classical music and how it served as a foundation for the popular music of today!
You can help my students, and I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they realize that complete strangers helped fulfill their dreams. I am looking forward to working with a segment of the population that has not been fortunate enough to receive the quality music education that was provided to me as a child. Hopefully, you will help me obtain the necessary resources to provide my students with the best music program possible.
