My students are happy-go-lucky first graders, hailing from the second largest school district in New England.
Our school is considered a high-poverty school, and the majority of my students come from low-income/socio-economic households and unsafe neighborhoods.
My classroom is a second-home to many of my students. In first grade, a lot of our time is spent on the rug, together as a whole-group. Our current rug is dusty, falling apart, and needs to be replaced to fully support the class and their learning needs.
With a new rug, my students would have access to a safe, comfortable environment in which daily learning would occur.
With a heightened level of comfort, my hope is that my students will become more open to sharing their thoughts and experiences as they apply to learning.
