Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are determined and kind middle school special education students. They have a great deal of enthusiasm. They especially love music. They are behind their peers academically but they put a lot of effort into everything they do!
Our school is located in a low income neighborhood and it is difficult for us to get the supplies we need to help this unique group of learners.
It is an urban area filled with diverse cultures. The city itself is a low income community surrounded by wealthier communities.
My Project
My students have become more enthusiastic about reading in class for assignments. The next step for me is to encourage them to read for pleasure. A big part of that pursuit is having a designated space in the classroom for the students to read. By having two bean bag chairs and a rug, my students will have a relaxing place to sit and read just for fun.
This space will also be an important part of creating our classroom community.
The bean bag chairs and rug can be used for students to have a dedicated cool down area to go to when they are upset and need a place to breathe and gather themselves. These items would serve two important purposes in our classroom.
