Our school is located in Houston, Texas. We are a Title I school. My second graders come to class every day eager to learn. We serve students from low income and multicultural and bilingual homes. Most of our students are on free or reduced-price lunch. My classroom has students with attention difficulties as well as those with special needs who require additional help.
Hurricane Harvey had a major impact on our school and neighborhood.
Many of my students' homes were flooded and some lost everything. We came back to school to discover we had flooded here also. We lost two weeks of our school year in order to make repairs. My students have persevered and kept a smile on their faces. We are striving to get back on track and make up our lost instructional time.
Birthdays are a big deal when you are in second grade! My students will greatly benefit from these fun birthday goodies! Due to Hurricane Harvey, many of my students' families are still working to regain a sense of normalcy. My students will be so thrilled to receive a little birthday gift on their special day!
My students are so happy to be at school in a safe environment and they are eager to learn.
These requested items will help my students feel special and celebrated in our safe, school environment. We can also honor one student a week with the implementation of the "All About Me" posters.
