Help Bring My Classes to Life Imagine a composition class where the teacher can project a sample paper and work through possible revisions, taking suggestions from the class as she works. Or a senior seminar preparing students for college where the teacher can project a sample FAFSA application and demonstrate how to fill it out. Or a reading class where students can display the power points they create to teach their classmates vocabulary words. Or a ACT class where the students can come to the board and edit projected sentences. And a teacher who can move through four classes a day with all those exercises and activities stored away leaving boards free for class notes and reminders and allowing her to interact with her students as they come in rather than erasing and re-writing boards. I’m a teacher at an open enrollment charter high school in New Orleans, Louisiana where I teach all four of those classes: English Composition, Reading, Senior Seminar, and ACT Prep. My students range from 9th to 12th grade, with many diverse needs including special education and 504 accommodations as well as unique talents. The school itself is designed as an early college high school with the mission of getting minority and first generation high school students to college. Although we’re located in a middle class neighborhood, most of our 400 students have limited finances and receive reduced or free lunch. Due to the recent budget cuts in education, our school has limited finances as well, My Reading class has limited book supplies, but with the aid of a projector, I could supplement them with various online sites designed to strengthen reading skills. In my composition class, I could show movies and video clips and relate them to material covered in class to make the stories come alive for the students and strengthen their connection to the material. I would be able to show the seniors in my seminar class various college and scholarship websites, walk them through the process of registering for their college classes.. I would be able to project ACT materials found online so the students could practice in class. I would like to make my classes more alive and interactive with the aid of an LCD projector, but my school cannot afford a projector for my classroom. An Epson EX30 3LCD Multimedia Projector with built-in speakers would allow me to forgo the need of purchasing external speakers. The cost of this proposal is $515, which covers shipping and fulfillment. Your donation will help me provide the students with more resourceful instruction and guidance in preparing for college and beyond. Thank you for contributing!
