Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the best! They come from many different countries and speak a few different languages, but most are from Central America. They are sweet and respectful and want to learn. They appreciate everything I do for them and everything I give to them.
My students are incredibly resilient.
They have come a long way to get to my classroom. My students have sacrificed and worked incredibly hard and even risked their lives to get to where they are today. Many have faced awful circumstances, such as gang violence, family members dying and/or abandoning them, and the daily struggle to learn English and be successful in a new country. They deserve an excellent education, so that they can have successful lives here in the United States, after fighting so hard to get here.
I think that my students are amazing. They have gone through so much in life, and they still come to school every day, work hard, and have positive attitudes. They make me laugh and smile on a daily basis.
My Project
I teach English as a Second Language. When my students come to my classroom, they know that their learning will consist of more than just rote memorization or taking notes. I like to use the visual and performing arts to help them learn English, and I especially like using presentations and visualizations to help make the input they need to learn comprehensible to them.
Having a projector allows me to use a multi-media approach to teaching English in the 21st century.
Technology is incredibly important to use in the classroom not only because it makes the content more interesting and engaging, but also because my students need to be competent users of technology in the world we live in today. Having a projector gives me the opportunity to teach by showing videos, playing music, having photographs and other visuals, creating fun presentations, and also gives me the ability to have my students create their own presentations!
If I am able to get a projector, my students will learn English in an interesting and engaging way that will also allow them to practice using technology that they will need to use once they are out of high school.
