This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students are an incredibly motivated and talented group of visual arts majors of many different ethnicities as well as socio-economic backgrounds. They travel to our specialized arts high school from all across the city to pursue their passion for art and making art.
This year, we will be exploring the art of printmaking.
In this foundation course, Basic Printmaking, students will learn, study, explore, and put into practice the various printmaking techniques creating a portfolio of prints. I have 28 students in each of my 5 printmaking teaching blocks. I want to be able to give them the best experiences in class. It would be great for the students to be able to work on a piece and print it during the class period. I want to promote independence as they work on their art.
Presently, there is a large block printing press that can be cumbersome for some of the techniques that we will be doing such as monoprint and collagraph. The smaller block presses will allow the students to use a wider range and variety of printmaking techniques. Additionally, these smaller block presses will facilitate the students’ independent use of a printing press to complete print portfolios.
