This year, I am teaching an Exceptional Education Self-Contained class. This means that my students receive instruction based on Alternative Achievement Standards and that my classroom revolves around functional skills. Many times this means that I am creating (and printing!) my own materials to use- materials that support my students where they are, and help to build upon skills we have already covered.
These students amaze me daily with their personalities and imagination.
I know that with the proper instruction and support, they can take on the world and live wonderful lives!
My Project
Due to the needs of my students, I create and print many of my own materials. Many of these materials often have color heavy images in them to help communicate concepts- none of my students can read, and very few know their letters. Therefore, my students need to have clear, concise images for them to use.
Having visuals to use in my classroom is very important to my students' success.
These visuals allow them to communicate needs and wants to us, and us to communicate new concepts to them. I am constantly creating and printing new materials/visuals for my students when I recognize a need- which is often daily!
Unfortunately, I am currently having to pick and choose which visuals I think are the most vital since I am buying ink for my current printer out of pocket. To give you an idea of how much I print, I have been in my current position for 4 weeks, and have already had to replace both ink cartridges in my current printer twice.
I believe that having a high ink capacity printer will allow me to provide every visual my students could want or need, without having to worry about the cost. I can only dream of the things I could print for my students if ink cost was not a worry!
