Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the proud teacher of 20 second grade English Language Learners, ten boys and ten girls. My students are a diverse group representing various Latin American countries such as El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and live in an underserved community surrounded by poverty and homelessness. This year, these 20 students and I have come together despite the adversity of COVID-19 and created a safe learning environment in a public elementary school classroom in Los Angeles, California.
Each of my students, with their own creativity and unique contributions, brings our classroom alive with learning every day.
They enjoy participating in class discussions where they get to share their life experiences ranging from dreams and aspirations to family struggles. They are great mathematicians and love attending their theater and dance classes. Together, my students are twenty enthusiastic and curious minds eager to reach their full potential.
My Project
Parent-teacher communication is essential for student success. A printer will facilitate the process of keeping parents informed about classroom events and student accomplishments. For example, parents will receive a weekly newsletter notifying them about topics, skills and strategies being addressed across the different subject areas. They will also receive information about special events such as parent conferences, awards ceremonies, field trips, and holiday celebrations.
A printer can promote student achievement in a variety of ways.
In addition to facilitating parent-teacher communication, a printer will also expedite the process of preparing homework packets. It will be used to print certificates to support our classroom incentive program. Our printer will even be used by students to print their class projects!
