Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach around 200 seventh and eighth graders. I work at a Title I school in San Antonio, where the majority of my students come from low income families. One hundred percent of my students also qualify for a free lunch. Many cannot afford even paper and pencils, so I provide them for the students among most other supplies needed. I teach a majority of Hispanic and African American students, a large percentage of English Language Learners, and special education students.
My students usually work together either in small groups or independently.
The teachers at my school just want to give our students the best educational opportunities possible.
My Project
Last year having a printer in the classroom was a total lifesaver. Being able to quickly print out our students' assignments in class, and really anything we needed to print to show them, saved so much time. My entire department does not have access to an individual printer at all. If we were able to obtain just one printer, our entire department of social studies, grades 6, 7, and 8 would be able to utilize the one printer.
This is definitely a teacher saver, but our students will majorly benefit from having the option of color on their assignments.
As a US History teacher, we will have a tested subject this year. My partner teacher and I hope to print out many pictures for our students for test reviews and visuals throughout the class. A printer would be a huge asset in getting us through this year successfully.
